BAT expects July with smaller cigs packsRecently, British American Tobacco (BAT) Kenya has announced its intention to launch in July smaller packets for its cigarettes. New packets will contain10 sticks and will be sold alongside the traditional 20-stick packets. Kenyan tobacco producer seems to have finished with preparation for new coming product, as in a recent reportage Mr Nicolas Maistre , the managing director, said they have a new production line to pack the 10 sticks packets. These new packs should contain bolder cautionary messages of the dangers caused by tobacco smoking as the 20-stick packets. It is unknown how much will cost 10-stick prices and the list of cigarettes brand that would be packed in small packs, but it can be presupposed that this step is the company’ new shot to increase its sales. Restrictions imposed by government as limiting of tobacco advertising and promotion, ban on public smoking and increasing of taxes on tobacco products have pressured the commerce. Maybe 10-stick packs will bring a fresh view and inspiration for Kenyans. They have to wait few months, till July, when BAT Kenya officially will carry these small packs. |
