JT puts up the shutters its Ishikawa factoryJapan Tobacco has decided to close its Kanazawa factory located in Ishikawa prefecture, Japan. This gesture was exerted by radical changes in state policy concerning tobacco products and usage. Restriction on smoking in public places and anti-smoking campaigns has far-reaching influence on total sales volumes. Being the world’s third tobacco producer, JT produces well known brands such as Winston, Camel, Mild Seven and Benson & Hedges. Japan producer controls near 67% of the cigarette market in Japan. JT has been taking various measures, such as cigarette rebranding and launch of new tobacco products on domestic market in order to maintain its market share in Japan. Ishikawa factory has been activated since 1972 till now. Major brands produced by this tobacco factory were Cabin Super Mild Box and Mild Seven Super Light Box. Production volume was approximately 7.4 billion cigarettes. On 109, 507 square meters 112 employees worked. Now all those workers will be unemployed. Details about their future plans concerning the labors and the pernicious influence of this decision on JT Company have not yet been established. |
