What Vietnams smoke?Vietnam meets a problem that annually impoverishes state of million of dollars. This problem is related to tobacco sector, mostly to purchasing of cigarettes on Vietnam tobacco market. Every year state loses $265 mln in cigarette trafficking. Most problematic is that this predicament turns into a national trend which spreads over more and more large areas every year. According to Vietnam Tobacco Association, over 500 million cigarette packs are smuggled into the country annually. Association sustained that focal point of contraband cigarettes on line is the borders of Laos, Cambodia and China. Through these borders cigarettes are imported to Vietnam, later being distributed all over the country. Most popular brands are Hero, 555, Jet, and Mild Seven. Police forces, customs and border guard agencies were concentrated on solution of this problem. It was also introduced more restricted rules for sale and transport of cigarettes across the nation. Successful implementation of this campaign is carried by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce. This program has special division for those who sells tobacco products: shops, restaurants, etc. Deputy Minister Nguyen Cam Tu says police and local agencies will intensify market inspections as well as launch inspections of restaurants and street side cigarette hawkers. |
