Smoking susceptibility is determined by genetic peculiarities.

The authors of two independent researches at once, which are devoted to the problem of smoking attract their attention to a gene concerned a nicotine dependence. The obtained results can lead to the new methods of nicotine dependence treatment, giving proper way to the individual peculiarities of the smokers.

Both groups of the researches investigated the peculiarities of different gene CYP2A6 forms, which contain the information about an enzyme structure; the latter regulates a nicotine metabolism.

The results of the previous investigations showed the persons with defective form of this gene are inclined to the nicotine dependence lesser.

To the experts’ mind an increased level of nicotine in their blood keeps longer in comparison with those whose nicotine metabolism is up to norm.

In the course of another research it was established the variations of the CYP2A6 gene influence nicotine quality, which a person trying to give the smoking up, extracts from the nicotine plaster.

In the course of her investigation a researcher from the Toronto University (Canada) determined the people with a reduced nicotine metabolism who use the nicotine plaster have a higher level of this substance in the blood.

Those smokers whose nicotine metabolism process passes quicker may need two or three plasters in order to restore the nicotine level enough to stifle their thirst for smoking.

As the researches mention the usage of some nicotine plasters simultaneously injures lesser harm to the health than the return to smoking.
