Safe CigarettesThe British tobacco factories can be reoriented to the issue of “safe” cigs, as BBC reports. The matter does not concern the harmful contents in the tobacco smoke. The British are attended to the safety of their houses, which are burnt down because of undamped cigarette stubs. Activists of the movement who set the reducing of the flammability risk as their object, offered to produce “slowly burning” cigs, which go out quickly if they are left without surveillance. If such a cigarette is left smouldering, it will go out owing to peculiar paper properties. Similar cigarettes have been produced in the USA already. However the representatives of the British American Tobacco company, the greatest tobacco manufacturer in Great Britain, declared they do not plan to manufacture such cigs. It will be a question of development when the convincing evidences of the fact they go out themselves. Anthony Roberts, a representative of British burns association, considers it is necessary to produce not only safety cigarettes by moderate price, but to win the possibility to buy just cigarettes like them. This action could become the most effective precautionary measure against deaths, caused by fires. Last year undamped cigs provoked more than four thousand fires, just in Great Britain. As their result, 136 persons perished, more than two thousand were seriously burnt. The activists hope the government will be able to exert influence on the tobacco companies and insist on the safety cigs producing. |
