Primary home tobacco producer Philip Morris USA offered a donation of $200,000 to United States National Slavery Museum planed to be positioned in Fredericksburg, along Rappahannock River.

Namely, 200,000 thousand dollars will be used for hiring of additional staff and develop marketing and fundraising efforts for collecting $200 million, that is a relative cost of entire construction, for a new national museum.This museum was projected for same time ago. Idea of creating such museum comes from former Virginia governor L. Douglas Wilder, the nation's first black elected governor.

Such financial endowment resulted from ongoing cooperation between leaders of the museum and Philip Morris USA Tobacco Company.Museum director Vonita Foster affirmed: "I really believe they understand the importance of this historic initiative and they understand our mission, which is to present a more complete rendering of the complex topic of slavery".

Positive comments were submited by representative of PM Tobacco Tina Walls, senior vice president of external affairs with the Richmond-based tobacco company: "We are proud to support the museum's efforts to establish itself as a national destination for learning and reconciliation. The U.S. National Slavery Museum will be an important educational asset to both the commonwealth of Virginia and the nation."

Detail that maybe encouraged famous cigarette manufacturer to donate this sum of money was that in same year, 1902, when slavery was abolished was established this American tobacco company. It is important event in life not only of firm history, but also to entire nation.Funds for building slavery museum were also collected through involving of celebrities, as for example comedian Bill Cosby, and with that of community. Recent effort of collecting money was calling of Americans for donating $8 dollars each for “"a jewel that's missing in a crown" of American historical resources.

As claimed museum representatives, around $50 million in cash and in kind donation are already collected thing that will allow building of a 100-square-foot learning center of museum to open in 2008.Entire area of museum will be of 290,000-square-foot built on a 38-acre site in Fredericksburg and will include over 5,000 historic relics of slavery, galleries and a full-scale replica of a Portuguese slave ship.
