Chandigarh administration doesn’t want to hear anything related to tobaccoIn Chandigarh additional restrictions related to tobacco were introduced. In “The City Beautiful” not only smoking in public places was banned, but also all tobacco-related activities. Chandigarh, located near the foothills of the Shivalik range of the Himalayas in Northwest India, is a famous Indian city and the capital of two states: Punjab and Haryana. Nicknamed as “The Beauty City” it is known for its high standard of living with highest per ca-pita income in the country and tops. The city’s administration decided to prohibit any sponsorship from those that have something in common with tobacco. And what is more, it is also prohibited to all officials and agencies to take part in any tobacco industry activity in the city. Home secretary Krishna Mohan forbids all existed businesses and enterprises to make contact with tobacco industry. The heads of departments, boards, corporations and institutions were acknowledged about that. Any attempt to accept help, investigation or sponsorship from those that deal with tobacco is declared as a law breaking. Smoking ban in Chandigarh was introduced on July 15. It was declared a “smoke free city” where smoking is prohibited in almost all public places. Any attempt to irrespect the restrictions is penalized with fine.
